It has to be at least 15 years since I first heard of “the biggest overhang” on the Central Coast.  That’s how it was described in NPWS Discovery Walk to Mooney Cave. But it was one of those walks that I wouldn’t usually do … local and only a half day walk.  And you all know that I wouldn’t usually get out of bed for a half day walk (lol), let alone waste a Saturday or Sunday on one! This is what happens when I don’t take my compass!

HAYSTACK RIDGE – 23 July 2023
I’d used this ridge when we accessed the lower part of South Bowen Creek and John G had told me that there was a great geographical feature further along the ridge.  So. it went on the Wish List for a day when I was in the Mountains with nothing to do.  So, after abseiling Malaita Point on Saturday, Jim C, Cheryl W and I decided we’d “tick this off the list”. One has to wonder about the preparedness of some people when they plan an adventure … and how some government agencies can seriously screw up.  This is a story about how I had a great time abseiling Malaita Point and then on the walk out, saved some poor unsuspecting tourists $60 each and significantly reduced the bottom line of the Scenic Railway for the day (lol)! I’m Backkkkkk!

A months’ gone by without a word from me … as some of you know I’ve been in Western Australia, in the Kimberley Region doing cave surveying and exploration.  Came back on the 14th but it will take a couple of weeks for me to sort out photos and write up about three awesome weeks.  However, there’s no stopping me, I was barely off the plane when I was in the car with my two youngest granddaughters (and son) for a night of adventure!
