Unfinished Business – Tumbledown Ridge

Yengo Trail > Tumbledown Ridge > Tumbledown Creek > Nowlands Creek > Nowlands Ridge > Yengo Trail
Back in June 2010, I did a recce day walk out to Nowlands Track with a few BWOC friends, just sniffing the place out.  Then in December 2010 I put on an overnight walk to Nowlands with the intention of exiting via Tumbledown.  Due to a number of reasons (heat – FFS it was December what was I thinking – scratchy scrub, bull ants and a navigational error on my part), all we did was the Nowlands Ridge part of the walk down to Sandy Creek. When doing my “wish list”, for some reason I added this walk to it as “unfinished business”. Maybe I should have read the trip report from the December walk! Continue reading →

That’s it for me and the bloody Bird Men!

I’ve now been searching for the aboriginal rock engravings, “two Bird Men” or “two Emu Men” for at least four years.  Admittedly I’ve only gone to the area once or twice a year, but I hadn’t given up hope of finding these elusive rock engravings, and I’d dragged unsuspecting friends with me each time, to NO avail!  This weekend wasn’t any different, so I’ve washed my hands of this grid reference once and for all, and erased the GR from my map! Did I say I wasn’t going to do any more Overnight Canyons?

Anna says that I did say that not so long ago!  Exploratory canyoning is a case of “expect the unexpected”, and, you don’t always find a canyon.  Plus, you ALWAYS come away with something else in the area that you just “have to check out next time”.  This trip was challenging for me because we had to carry in all our abseil gear, plus everything we needed to stay out for three nights – thankfully Jeff B came to the rescue and carried in some of what I couldn’t fit in my canyon pack – enabling me to do yet another overnight canyon! IYDM Trip #3 – An Adventure with Flour and Milk

ETTREMA  – 19 – 22 April 2019
The Legendary Louise has extensively explored two creek systems in the Ettrema area, which she’s named, the Lost Pools and New Moon.  When she mentioned the walk to me, I thought it was an “In Your Dreams M” trip – 4 – 5 hours (that I’d already done twice and was almost scarred for life) – and that’s only the beginning!  But with the passage of time, and a revised route in, I figured I’d give it a go – and doing the walk with Louise was an added incentive – I’d pretty much go anywhere with her!
