Ordinarily, this wouldn’t rate a post, I’ve done it maybe five other times, the first time back in 2001, there are more videos and reports of it on the net than most other canyons, it’s really special and my images certainly don’t do it justice.  So, I guess the reason for this post is (a) I did it with people I really like and (b) it’s now my “benchmark”. In search of Oliver’s pass & campsite

thumbnailOn a recent walk to the Mini Western Arthurs in October, we’d walked downstream from our (almost perfect) grassy campsite, to take a look at a spot marked on Oliver’s map with a “C”, denoting “campsite”.  We were thwarted by a sheer cliff of about 30m, but peering down, it did look perfect and well worth marking on a map.  So, we determined that we’d have to return.  Continue reading →

Sometimes you just have to go back and “do it right the next time” … I’d had a shocker of a trip a few years ago when instead of taking some beginners up the Long Point Tourist track I inadvertently dragged them up King Pin Mountain and by the time I realised that we were in trouble it was too late to rectify the situation (but that’s a whole other story).
