Photo faffing!

NEWNES VALLEY – 5 February 2022
After yesterday’s big trip to False Teeth, I was looking forward to a more relaxed day.  We’d decided not to do Twilight (for a variety of reasons), and so John picked a new canyon for us (he always does a “new” canyon on his Birthday Canyon Weekend).  None of us knew what to expect, but we were all up for a sociable day out – I can’t believe that the canyon took as long as it did, but there was a lot of faffing around! IYDM Trip #8 – Fireball Canyon

NEWNES VALLEY – 4 February 2022
I’d always thought this canyon was one that I’d never visit.  Also known as False Teeth or False Tooth canyon, I’d not seen any other details other than a two line entry in the Guide Book.  There were no details of how to get to it and looking on the topo map, it looked like a really, really long walk.  So, I’d written it off as “in your dreams M”.  Continue reading

5 Hours Car to Car

BLUE MOUNTAINS – 30 January 2022
I’d done Kamarah Gully back in 2018 and if I’d read my blog post (which I didn’t), I would have taken note of my comment “would I do Kamarah again – hell, YES!”  Then I wouldn’t have been so surprised at the high quality of the canyon, albeit short! Continue reading

Revisiting Jungaburra Canyon

BLUE MOUNTAINS – 29 January 2022
I first did Jungaburra in January 1999 – and I think as we exited out of the canyon through a forest of Lawyer Vine and then an endless walk up a fire trail, we all agreed that it was a “never to be repeated” canyon – definitely not worth the effort.  When Kavita and Rod suggested that they do Jungaburra as one of Kavita’s skills development trips (with the goal being to become a leader), I was less than impressed, but “taking one for the team” I agreed to go along. Finding the Silver Linings

NEWNES PLATEAU – 22 – 23 January 2022
Everything seemed to be under control for the weekend of canyoning – everyone turned up, Louise provided a 4WD to get those without one to the HITW carpark, the week of rain seemed to be clearing … and then when we got to the HITW carpark and were unpacking our vehicles, Anna asked “what about the ropes?” … me:  “Ah, f%#k, they’re back in my car at the Zig Zag Railway! And I don’t usually swear! Continue reading
