IYDM Trip #10 – Twilight

NEWNES VALLEY – 2 – 4 April 2022
Another canyon that, only in my wildest dreams would have I imagined that I would be able to do it, Twilight Canyon.  It’s a long, long walk just to the start of the canyon, well, probably not that long, but when you try to do the canyon in one day, you start really early, at the crack of dawn and get back to your car in the dark.  John G came up with a plan that meant I could do the canyon and not be trashed at the end of the day. IYDM Trip #9 – Heart Attack Canyon

NEWNES PLATEAU – 19 – 21 March 2022
This was to be an epic three day trip – Heart Attack canyon on the Saturday and then an overnight trip into Surefire on the Sunday and Monday.  Didn’t quite go to plan, but I did get to do Heart Attack Canyon – last done in 2011 and I didn’t think I’d ever go back and do it again – it’s a very, very long day! The “almost” Canyon

I’d been on this small tourist walk about 10 years ago , and had put it in the memory bank as a “must go further down this creek, to see if it turns into a canyon”, and then Phil C beat me to it, reporting that it was indeed worth doing (once).  Another couple of years passed and finally I put it on the MSS calendar, hoping that someone would think it was a good idea to explore it too. Who would have thought a Michael Keats canyon would be so good

NEWNES PLATEAU – 19 February 2022
Six weeks ago, Trish, Kathy, John and I had attempted Henry’s Canyon and had been thwarted by high water and a corkscrew drop that looked like almost certain death (well not quite but decidedly off-putting).  So, it was unfinished business.  We’d set aside this day so that the four of us could complete the trip, but sadly Trish and Kathy couldn’t make it, now John’s going to have to go back again!
