Canyoning – Newnes Plateau 15 & 16 October 2016
I did say that we’d be doing exploratory canyons and not to expect too much, maybe there’d be some constricted canyon, maybe not.  They were after all unpublished canyons and if they were any good they’d be in the Guide!  Am pretty sure though that the weekend’s canyoning exceeded all expectations, PLUS I gave Rod the opportunity to gloat! Twins Canyon

Newnes Plateau – 8 October 2016
For me to drive up to the Newnes Plateau at the crack of dawn for a daywalk there has to be a pretty good reason, after all it’s a 6+hour round trip.  But this was a non-abseil canyon I’d not heard of before, plus there was the opportunity to walk with another group, Upper Blue Mountains Bushwalking Club, so was worth the 4.30am wake up call? I’d been planning this walk for quite a few years, just waiting for a 3 day weekend to do it, and when I thought about it, it didn’t sound all that bad, a couple of ups and downs, how hard could it be?  Well, I think I’ve just done my last Pantoneys Crown walk!

No-name Canyon – Stage #1

I’d had 10 days cooped up in the house and finally decided I needed to get out, Lindsay B and Trish N joined me to suss out where this unpublished canyon that I’d “heard about” might be.  I knew the “general area” and pouring over the map I’d picked out a section of a creek that looked like it might be interesting even if a canyon wasn’t there.  We all had plans for Sunday, so set off for Newnes State Forest at 5am on Saturday, we were back home by 7pm (what were we thinking, long way to go for a day walk!). Cu Canyon – almost an epic!

This is an unpublished canyon, well, sort of, and Cu is what I’ll call it, not it’s real name.  It’s not on the internet, and not in the canyoning guide books.  I’d been looking forward to this canyon for months, Rod (the leader) had said there were a couple of rock climbs to get to it, but he assured me that they were “easy” and I knew that Beth, Andre and John G would be on the trip (all good climbers), so they’d make sure I got up the climbs.  In the end there were 8 of us, Rod was sick and couldn’t make it, Heather, Nick, Marcella and Ed joined us (2 of us were non-climbers).
