When I didn’t get any novices on what was to be an easy overnight walk, I decided to ramp it up a bit and make it a little more challenging,  plus, I’d be doing the navigation this weekend (I don’t like navigating with novices on a trip, they get cranky when you have to backtrack).   The Plan was to check out a couple of places that I’ve not been to before. I’ve finally abseiled Kilimanjaro

I’d known about these abseils for some time but didn’t quite know where they were.  When a trip came up on the calendar for Upper Blue Mountains Bushwalking Club, combining Africa Walls, Kilimanjaro, Skinny and Moss Pit, I jumped at the opportunity to do these abseils.  I would be leaving home around 7am to make it to the rendezvous point by 9.30am. Kanangra – the only thing missing was snow

It was the birthday weekend for three of the Heaphy Group – all Cancerians, their birthdays fell within 4 days of each other.  We met up at Kanangra Walls on Saturday morning, as Anne and I drove from Oberon towards Kanangra Walls, we kept seeing piles of unmelted snow on the side of the road.  Not an auspicious start.  Continue reading →

Winter Magic – Katoomba

A half-day canyon and a longish abseil at Devil’s Hole wouldn’t usually be blog worthy,  but snow the day before at Katoomba and the forecast of near zero temperatures sounded like an adventure, so, Trish, Greg, Rod and I rugged up and headed to the Blue Mountains (aka hills in most other countries).
